The beautiful deep red disk of the setting Sun sinks lazily into a layer of mist over the Sperrin Mountains in N. Ireland on March 3rd 2011, taken using a Canon 100-400mm IS UMS lens at 400mm and cropped. Accompanying the horizontal strips of cloud is naked eye sunspot group 1164 which was in the process of approaching the solar meridian and into an Earth-directed location, this group would later produce strong M-class solar flares, CMEs, and develop a magnetic field capable of X-class events. * All images are available for sale in the form of photo prints, canvas or digital files for licensing, if you are interested in a purchase simply drop me an email.
